The Spotted Hyena is the largest hyena in the world. It is also one of the most successful large predator in Africa. One reason for its success is that it eats every part of a carcass, including the teeth and bones. They don't just chew the bones. They can digest the bones. Even a 1-year old hyena has a powerful bite. Dr. Brady Barr found out that a baby hyena has a bite force of 603 pounds. Adult hyenas have a bite force of 1,000 pounds. This means a Spotted Hyena can out-bite a Grizzly Bear. In fact, this hyena can bite through a Ground Pangolin's armor. A pangolin has armor that is so hard that even a bullet can't penetrate it. Even the king of the beasts cannot bite through. It takes a 1,000 pound bite to gnaw through and Lions only have a bite force of 900 pounds. But the Spotted Hyena has just that bigger bite force so it just gnaws away.
