Ornimegalonyx was a species of flightless owl that lived in what is now Cuba. At a height of 43 inches and weighing 20 pounds, Onimegalonyx was the largest owl that ever lived. It was so big that when this owl's fossils were fist found, it was first thought to have been a species of terror bird. While there were no terror birds in Cuba, Ornimegalonyx did coexist with ground sloths that were much smaller than the ones from South America. The largest ground sloth, Megatherium, weighed 8 tons. The ones from Cuba didn't go past 200 pounds. This made them prey for Ornimegalonyx.
