"It's a Liopleurodon, Charlie. A magical Liopleurodon." Ok, a real Liopleurodon can't really tell you how to get to Candy Mountain. In fact, it would most likely just eat you. Liopleurodon is a species of Pliosaur from the Jurassic seas. The first specimens of it were discovered in Boulogne-sur-Mer, Northern France and the British Isles by paleontologist Henri-Émile Sauvage in 1873. One of the Apex Predators of the Jurassic Seas, since then, more of its fossils have been found across Northern Europe, Western Russia to Argentina. Liopleurodon is just as terrifying. In the documentary Walking with Dinosaurs, Liopleurodon was described as 25m long and weighed 150 tons, but then, the size was completely exaggerated. For Liopleurodon, in reality, juveniles could reach a length of 7 meters while the adults had a length of 10 meters & has been known from only 2 species: L. Pachydeirus from the British Isles, L. Ferox, the largest & type specimen known from the British Isles and Northern Europe(Mainly Boulogne-sur-Mer & Germany) & some unnamed specimens from Western Russia, Mexico & Argentina. In these locations Liopleurodon lived alongside another Pliosaur known as Simolestes, which was found in The British Isles, Northern France & India. Liopleurodon has also made its appearance in cartoons & films where it has a main-minor antagonistic role, such as Don Bluth’s Disney-Universal series Land Before Time, where it is depicted as the same 25m size. Its inspiration came from rather by post-WWD media covering it, until in Adult Swim’s Primal series, it is depicted as the realistic, 10-meter long size from L. Pachydeirus & L. Ferox. The difficult part of identifying Liopleurodon, is by indicating its size variations.
