Livyatan melvillei was a prehistoric whale that was in the same family as the Sperm Whale and its 7m, killer whale-sized cousin from Japan, Brygmophyster. This monster was 18m long and had a 10-foot skull. Unlike the modern Sperm Whale, Livyatan had teeth on both the upper jaw and the lower jaw. This makes Livyatan more like Brygmophyseter than a Sperm Whale. Like Brygmophyseter, Livyatan lived alongside O. Megalodon. Unlike Brygmophyster, it was hunting the same prey as Megalodon. Where Livyatan was found, which is now Peru, Chile, California, South Africa, Australia & possibly New Zealand, there were fossils of various marine creatures, most abundantly, in the Pisco-Cerro Ballena Formations of Peru & Chile, Livyatan lived amongst many other marine creatures, such as Odobenocetops, a 2.1m long ancestor of both the Beluga whale & the Narwhal, Acrophoca, an ancient pinniped known as the “Swan-Necked Seal”, Thalassocnus Yuacensis, the 3.3m long marine sloth, Cosmopolitodus/Carcharodon Hastalis, an 8-9m long Great White Shark ancestor, also called the “Broad-Tooth White Shark”, Acrophyseter, 4-meter long cetaceans resembling Killer Whales, Cetotheres, primitive 5-7m baleen whales like Piscobalaena & of course, Incakujira, a 7-9 meter long ancient baleen whale that reached the size of an Omura’s Whale. There’s evidence proving that Livyatan could have eaten these creatures as part of its diet, just like O. Megalodon.
