American Alligator

An American Alligator in captivity at the Columbus Zoo, in Powell, Ohio

The American Alligator is the largest reptile in North America. The American Alligator can grow to a length of 14 feet long. American Alligators can handle the cold more easily than the American Crocodile, which would drown in water at temeratures of 45 degrees C. Because of this, American Alligators have a bigger diet. They eat raccoons, Florida Panthers, Black Bears, and even deer. But now, American Alligators have a new foe: the Burmese Python. Recently, pet owners have been releasing Burmese Pythons to the Everglades. One photograph show that the pythons have gone from pets to killers. The photograph shows the carcass of a Burmese Python with an American Alligator in its stomach. Now, it is illegal in Florida for pet owners to release pet Burmese Pythons in the wild
